The Class (Entre Les Murs)

Winner of the Cannes Palme d’Or.

The Class is based on an autobiographical novel by a former teacher in a tough school in the Parisian banlieux.

His class of 14- to 15-year-old kids in the film is made up of non-professionals, and their unobtrusively superb and authentic classroom scenes give a gripping kind of reality but, unlike ‘reality’ TV, one concerned not with humiliation or embarrassment but with idealism, and trying to learn something.
